Using Magnetic Healing Bracelets For Medical Treatment

Magnetic healing is done using magnets to relieve pain in many medical ailments, and thus assists the body in its Magnetic healing process.  The therapy employs Static/Permanent magnets (the ones whose magnetic field cannot change) of various sizes. They are thin and made of metal and are placed on different parts of the body, solo or as a group.

It is estimated that magnetic therapy is being used in 50 countries today, including Germany, UK, Japan, USA, Canada, Russia, Holland and in many parts of Europe.

Background

There are a number of terms that magnetic therapy has come to be known as, such as bio-magnetic therapy, magnet-therapy, bio-electromagnetic therapy and magno-therapy. It has been practiced since olden times through means of naturally occurring magnetite-rich rocks, now known as ‘Lodestones’. The Romans used it to treat gout and eye diseases. And Cleopatra was famous for having worn it on her forehead for beauty enhancement.

While in the 16th Century, renowned Swiss physician Paracelus, can be attributed for having introduced it in many parts of Europe, and used it to treat many illnesses, specifically headache and rheumatic conditions.

During the 18th Century, in Britain the production of carbon-steel magnets started which were much more potent then Lodestones. While in the 20th Century, even stronger magnets were developed, such as alnic, ferrite and rare-earth magnets. The latest magnets have hundred times more strength then the ones before. This continued progress has revived and sustained people’s belief that magnets can help in healing

Magnetic therapy is currently being used for curing arthritis, back pain, gout, insomnia, frozen shoulder, migraine and fibromyalgia (a disorder causing muscle pain and fatigue). It has also gained recognition with physiotherapists in treating sports-persons with their injuries and relieving (pain involving muscles and bone joints).

Benefits

Doctors are using this form of treatment because:

1) It is a non-invasive technique (the procedure does not involve any penetration in the body by means of incision or injection).

2) It is safe and easy to use.

3) It has no side effects.

4) No medication is involved.

5) It is affordable.

6) It can be used at any time.

7) There is no chance of a person becoming addicted to it.

Scientific Evidence

Generally magnetic therapy has been criticized because it does not have any scientific backing as such. Over the years a few small studies had been conducted which were not very convincing. However the ‘Baylor study’ that was performed in 1997 at Baylor’s Institute for Rehabilitation Research in Houston, USA did manage to change the opinion of many in the medical world, and the benefits of this treatment in different situations were acknowledged. Currently there are many ongoing studies, because for magnetic therapy to gain greater recognition, extensive research is required.

Magnetic Healing Jewellery and Other Items

Magnets are used in a multitude of items, through which the healing takes place. These include bracelets, rings, necklaces, and earrings. Then they can be placed in bands/belts which can be worn on the wrist, ankle, lower-back, knee, foot or waist. Also they are found in blankets, mattress pads, seat covers and shoe in-soles.

Magnetic Healing Bracelets

These bracelets are either made of stainless steel, titanium or copper and are available in a variety of attractive designs at an affordable cost. There are two reasons, which is how they are advantageous for us. Firstly when a bracelet having magnets in it is worn against the skin, it can give a boost to the electrical conductivity of blood, which in turn enhances the oxygenation in the cell tissue and thereby manipulates the blood-flow of veins, in the wrists. And since blood is essential to life, this property helps in the healing process.

Secondly magnets can trigger major acupressure points in the wrist that help alleviate pain not just in the hand but the entire arm, neck as well as treat head and stomach problems, just like in conventional acupuncture.

While bracelets made of ‘copper’ have a specific function. Microminerals of iron and zinc that are found in copper, when fuse with the sweat on a person’s skin can possibly be absorbed into the blood stream by the body. This happens due to a process known as TransDermal Micronutrition (TDM).  Therefore by wearing one regularly, could mean a small addition of such minerals in the body, which can be quite beneficial for tissues and joints.

Nonetheless one must remember that these Magnetic Healing bracelets should be used as an auxiliary treatment, and can by no means be a replacement of the medication that has been recommended by the doctor.
